EFFECT:
A glass of water magically turns to ice!
MATERIALS:
A coffee cup or Styrofoam cup
An ice cube
A sponge
A small glass of water
Note: Make sure to practice with different amounts of water because the sponge will not absorb a full glass of water.
SECRET SETUP:
Put the sponge in the bottom of the glass (it may need to be shaped in order to fit).
Note: Make sure that the entire bottom of the cup is covered so that the sponge fits tight and so that it will absorb all of the water.
Shortly before the performance put an ice cube on top of the sponge inside the cup.
PRESENTATION:
Don’t let anyone see inside of the cup. (If they see the ice cube or the sponge then the trick will be ruined). Pour the water into the cup. The sponge will absorb the water.
Wave your hands over the cup and say the magic words (any magic words will do). Tip the cup upside down and the ice cube will fall out. The water will stay inside because of the sponge.
Note: Make sure that the audience doesn’t see the sponge when you tip the cup upside down. Put the cup away as your audience is applauding before they ask to examine the cup.
